Driving on the vast sea, knowing your position at any time is very important to ensure the safety of navigation, and the ship positioning and navigation system plays such a role in navigation. However, under more and more complex navigation conditions, the use of satellite navigation systems alone is not reliable enough. More and more countries have begun to call for mandatory ships to be equipped with space-based (satellite navigation) and land-based dual backup positioning and navigation. The reporter learned from Dalian Maritime University yesterday that the "High Availability New System AIS Ship Autonomous Navigation System" project undertaken by Professor Zhang Shufang of the school was approved by the first batch of national science and technology support plan projects in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan. The project focuses on the research of ship land-based navigation system, and does not need to increase the cost of system construction and maintenance. It is a brand-new navigation system in the field of ship navigation technology in the world. The research results of the project and the satellite navigation system partner to form a "heavenly net", which can accurately locate the position of the ship and ensure the safety of the ship's navigation.

Hu Qing, an associate professor of Dalian Maritime University, is one of the project leaders. He introduced: "According to the world radio navigation plan of IALA (International Navigation Mark Association), for the navigation safety of coastal ships, ships will be forced to install space-based and land-based positioning and navigation systems. The space-based positioning system is GNESS satellite positioning system, but the land-based positioning and navigation system has not been selected by the International Maritime Organization. If a new land-based positioning system, the construction and maintenance costs will be a huge expense. 'AIS Ship Autonomous Navigation System with New High Availability System' is based on the AIS shore station network of the ship automatic identification system that has been built up along the coasts of China and other countries in the world. The AIS ship-borne equipment (ship station) that has been forcibly installed by the International Maritime Organization can carry out land-based navigation of ships in the high-density navigable waters of 50 nautical miles along the coast, so that the AIS system has the function of autonomous positioning, without additional system construction and maintenance costs, it is the most economical land-based positioning and navigation system, saving at least tens of millions of yuan in land-based positioning system maintenance costs each year. Up to now, there are no technical achievements and technical standards at home and abroad, and our projects have complete intellectual property rights."

Hu Qing said that the content of the research on the AIS ship autonomous navigation system is the technology that the International Maritime Organization calls on member states to research and develop. The research results will propose technical standards to the International Maritime Organization. If it can be passed by the International Maritime Organization, the technical results can be promoted worldwide, and the economic benefits are very considerable. China's leading role in technology will enable China to break the passive situation of backward ship navigation technology and have the right to speak in international ship navigation technology.
